Betty Lou Gordon left this earthly life on June 2, 2012 to be with her parents, brother, husband and son. Betty was born in Peculiar, Missouri on March 11, 1923. Her parents were Lisle R Wills and Hilda P (Conn) Wills. She lived in Independence, MO for over 80 years. She graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1941. She and her friends spent many hours at the Mobil station across from the High School at Maple and Union that her father “Pop Wills” ran. Betty was very active in the planning of the many class reunions for the class of 1941. She married William E Gordon in 1945. She spent her last days at the Gower Convalescent Center in Gower, MO. She was a Deacon in the First Presbyterian Church, and treasurer of the Memorial Committee. She worked for many years calling substitute teachers for the Independence School System.
She is survived by her sister Linda K Mealiea and husband Dr. Wallace L Mealiea of Gainesville, FL; son Michael F Gordon and wife Mary Kathleen Gordon of Trimble, MO; daughter in law Cheryl Gordon-Farmer of Crescent Springs, KY. She has five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Grandchildren are Douglas S Gordon and wife Megan of Boonville, MO; John R Gordon and wife Margie of Houston, TX; Christina N Tuemler and husband Kevin of Crescent Springs, KY; Elizabeth A Kays and husband Brandon of Kansas City, MO; Joseph R Gordon and wife Loressa of Houston, TX. Betty has one niece and one nephew in Virginia. Her brother Winton C Wills died in 1937, son John R Gordon died in 1984 and her husband died in 2008.
Memorial service will be at the Smithville Christian Church, 201 N Bridge Street, Smithville, MO 64089 on Wednesday June 20th at 10:00 AM. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Private family interment will follow at Floral Hills Cemetary. Family requests no flowers, memorial contributions should be sent to the First Presbyterian Church Memorial Committee. Cremation.
