Betty Jo Grammer, 83, Independence, MO passed away Sept. 5, 2009. Services will be 2 pm, Wed. Sept. 9, 2009 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence, MO 64055; interment at Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. Visitation will be 6 �" 8 pm, Tuesday at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to Cancer Action.
Betty Jo was born March 12, 1926 in Cross Timbers, MO. She earned a Bachelor of Science from Central Missouri State University. She owned her own day care business. On Oct. 29, 1945 Betty Jo married Earl Grammer, who preceded her in death in 1972. She was a member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church and enjoyed quilting and crocheting. She made quilts for cancer patients through Cancer Action and earned awards for organizing others to join her in this task. On Aug. 24, 1997 Betty Jo married Paul Gilpin, her precious companion of her senior years. He also preceded her in death on Sept. 1, 2008.
Betty Jo was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Elizabeth Grammer in 1993. She is survived by sons Jack E. Grammer and wife Sharon; Jim Grammer and wife Lisa, all of Independence, MO; Bill Grammer and wife Rene, Montevallo, AL; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
