Steven Grate, 61, of Blue Springs, MO passed away Friday, June 1, 2018. Cremation is planned with a Celebration of his life to be held on Sunday, June 10th, 2018 from 2-6pm at Lucky Empire Salon 2750 SW 40 Highway Eastbound, Blue Springs, MO, 64015.
Steven was born on April 10, 1957 in St. Louis, MO to Jack and Delores (Lapage) Grate. He proudly worked as an Engineer for the Union Pacific Railroad for 30 years, here in Kansas City. Steven was passionate about music and loved to play the drums. He played with his fellow Union Pacific Engineers in their band called Route 66, plus several other bands. He attended many concerts and made sure his love for music was passed on to his children. Whenever he wasn’t playing music, he enjoyed playing poker and baseball with his friends. Most of all, he cherished every moment with his family.
Steven’s legacy will carry on in the hearts of his wife Kathy Grate of Blue Springs, MO; daughter Carrie “Kiamm” McDaniel and husband Blake of Blue Springs, MO; son Joey “Choppy” Grate and wife Amber of Oak Grove, MO; daughters Krystel “Dobbie” Grate of Kansas City, MO and Kassie “Dew” Grate of Grain Valley, MO; step-sons Brian Balesteri and Jamie Balesteri and step-daughter Melissa; his mother Delores Grate; 4 brothers Jack Grate and wife Joan, Bill Grate and wife Debbie, Bob Grate and wife Darlene “Carlotta”, Tom Grate and wife Mary; 16 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren in route; plus several other extended family members and many, many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father.
