Albert William “Bud” Green, 79, of Independence, MO passed away Tuesday, December 09, 2008 at his home in the presence of his loved ones. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 13, 2008 at The Stone Church. Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Friday, December 12, 2008 at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial in Mound Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Crossroads Hospice. Bud was born December 5, 1929 in St. Louis, MO to Albert and Rose (Stoffregen) Green. He graduated from Lee’s Summit High School in 1949 and attended Finley Engineering College. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict, aboard the USS Mountrail, receiving the Korean War Service medal in 2001. Bud was united in marriage to Mary Regina Smith on May 5, 1956 in Independence, MO. Their family lived in Colorado, California and Oregon during Bud’s 27 years with AT&T. Prior to his retirement in 1983, the family had returned home to the Independence area once again. Bud served the Boy Scouts of America for over 20 years as scoutmaster of Troop 382 in Independence and Chairman of Mount Hamilton District in San Jose, CA. Mr. Green was a member of the Independence Junior Chamber of Commerce from 1963-1965 and was a local director for the Miss Missouri Pageant in 1965. Having been baptized into the Community of Christ church in 1959, Bud was ordained to the office of Elder in 1995 and superannuated in 2002. He and Gina were active in the East 39th Street Congregation since their return to Independence in 2002. A skilled woodworker, Bud enjoyed producing many unique and beautiful pieces for friends and loved ones. His interest and skill served him well in the family homes as he always had at least one project in progress. Bud and Gina built a beautiful home in Stockton, MO in 1992, where they could pursue their shared love of fishing and boating. Another passion that Bud and Gina shared was bowling �" always finding a team to join, as well as participating in tournaments and qualifying for several Senior Olympics both individually and as a pair. Bud garnered many awards, honors and enjoyment from this sport. Bud is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Regina; sons and daughters-in-law Kevin and Kay Green, Kenneth and Angela Green; daughter and son-in-law Dawna and John Snowden; five grandchildren and one great-grandson.
