Charles C. “Chuck” Griffey, 91, Independence, MO passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2012.
Visitation will be from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2012 at Carson-Speaks Chapel; 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052. A celebration of Chuck’s life will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial to follow at Bates City Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
Chuck was born June 26, 1921 in Burlington Junction, MO the son of Charles Elmer and Susan (Comer) Griffey. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving in WWII. Chuck served as a amphibian driver and took part in “Exercise Tiger”, training for D-Day. He helped delivered troops at the beaches of Normandy and was training for the invasion of Okinawa. Chuck retired from U.S. Electric after 32 years. He was a member of the American Legion and the IBEW #124. Chuck enjoyed sailing, parasailing and water skiing in his younger days. He also enjoyed model airplanes, and playing country music.
Chuck was preceded in death by his daughter, Caron Woods in 1986; two sisters; five brothers and his parents.
Survivors include his loving wife Dorothy of 25 years; step daughter, Rhonda Straw; grandsons, Gary Campbell and wife Patti, Doug Campbell and wife Dianna, Stacy Woods and wife Amy, and Russell Straw; six great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
