Maudie Jane Griffin, 77, returned to her heavenly home on January 8, 2017. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace. She took pride in cooking for family gatherings at her home. She was always the first one to lend a helping hand to her family and friends. Maudie was born in Viola, Arkansas on February 26, 1939 to Lehman and Etta Spence. She resided in Independence, Missouri most of her life. She was a member of Full Gospel Assembly in Independence, Missouri. Maudie is survived by her loving husband, Ray Griffin, of 62 years. They were married on August 27, 1954. Maudie is lovingly remembered by her children Billy (Robbie) Griffin and Sharon (Bob) Shipley of Independence, Missouri. Her four grandchildren Tony (Debbie) Griffin, Chris (Amanda) Griffin of Independence Missouri; Lori (Vince) Shipley of Shawnee, KS; Jonathan Shipley of Blue Springs, Missouri, and 13 great-grandchildren. Her sister Mary Hodges, 2 brothers Billy (Deanna) Spence of Independence., Missouri and Lehman (Alice) Spence, Jr. of Kearney, Missouri and other family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters Lucille White and Roberta Crane; brother David Spence; son Roger Eugene Griffin. The visitation is from 9:30-11:00 am Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 11 am at the chapel. Burial will be in Lee’s Summit Historical Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Full Gospel Assembly.
