Katie Marie Griffith (Mcdowell)

March 11, 1929 — August 9, 2017

Katie M. Griffith, 88, of Independence, Mo passed away August 9, 2017. Visitation will be 6-8pm Sunday, August 13, 2017 at Carson Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Independence, MO 64052. Funeral services will be 10am Monday, August 14, 2017 at the chapel. Burial will take place in Mt. Washington Cemetery. Katie was born on March 11, 1929 in El Dorado, AR to Fitzhugh L. and Katie V. (Davis) McDowell. In 1971 Katie moved to the Independence area with her husband and children. It was here that she explored her artistic side, and found that she had real talent. She was a wonderful mother, always there for her children thru thick and thin. Her cooking was a highlight for her children, including floating steak! Katie was a bus driver with the Independence School District for over 10 years. She was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church. Survivors include; daughters Vallie True and Janice Walls (Thomas); son Dale Griffith Jr. (Christine); grandchildren Jennifer Malaeulu (Lucy), Jacquelyn Esala (Aaron), Jeremiah Walls and Clint Walls; great granddaughters Bridget Walls and Brianne Walls; great great granddaughter Rilie Walls; sisters Dora Lee Cauley and Nancy Dowdy; extended family and friends. Katie is preceded in death by her husband Dale Griffith, Sr., her parents, and a brother William McDowell. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Jude’s or Great Plains SPCA.
