William H. “Bill” Griffith, 75, of Independence, MO, passed away on Wednesday, April 22nd, 2020. A visitation will be held Tuesday, April 28th from 9-10:00am, staggered to accommodate groups of no more than 10 at a time in the chapel while maintaining social distancing guidelines. A service with full military honors will be held at 10 am and will be streamed live on the Speaks Chapel Facebook page. A graveside interment will follow at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO.
Bill was born February 3, 1945 in St. Joseph, MO to William H. Sr and Bertie Griffith. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from Nov. 1966 – May 1970 during the Vietnam War. He was employed at the Federal Government USDA, retiring in 2013 as a Computer Programmer. In 1989, Bill married Joyce Runkle. They spent almost 31 years together.
Bill was a master gun, swords and coin collector; He was an avid reader and enjoyed US History. Bill was proud of his family and introduced his 3 sons as #1, #2 and #3 son. He was always a great debater and enjoyed talking politics with anyone that wanted to. Bill was greatly loved and will be missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include: wife Joyce Griffith; son William “Billy” H Griffith III and his wife Barbara; son Charles “Chuck” M Griffith and his wife Rachel; son John A Griffith; and daughter Anna Velasquez and husband Carlos; step-daughter Connie Barker; grandchildren Justin Griffith, Billy Griffith, Meghan Monroe, Kathryn Green; Kyle Lucas, Aubrey Griffith, Maya Griffith; Jaidyn Griffith, Janey Griffith; Arianna, Kaylee and Carlos Velasquez Jr.; Joey Barker and Chloe Barker. And great grandson Malcolm Monroe, as well as, extended family and many friends.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents; and 1 brother.
