Stephen Lee Grindstaff, 68, of Independence, MO, passed away Thursday, October 20, 2022, at Centerpoint Medical Center, Independence, MO.
He is survived by the love of his life, Peggy; his 4 sons, Stephen W. Grindstaff and his wife Aleha, Steven L. Sullivan-Smith and his wife Patricia, Chad Chisholm, Christopher L. Grindstaff; 2 daughters, Cathy J. LaBret and husband Steve, Stephanie S. Bartlett and husband Kevin; 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Stephen was preceded in death by his grandson Leo Highfill Grindstaff and granddaughter, Allison Bartlett.
Stephen was born and raised in Kansas City, MO. He attended Northeast High School. Stephen was a decorated soldier serving in the US Navy. He entered the service in 1971 and served in Vietnam as a member of the Assault Craft Unit 1. Stephen held jobs with the Northmoor Police Department, Jackson County Department of Corrections, and the US Post Office.
He was a musician who loved to write songs and played bass in several bands. He will be remembered for his immense love of family and friends and was an avid hunter. Stephen had a wonderful sense of humor and made friends everywhere he went.
A Celebration of Life will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at Open Arms Community of Christ Church, 1021 W. College St., Independence, MO, 64050.
