David Wayne Griner, Jr.

February 21, 1962 — December 15, 2005

David Wayne Griner, Jr. was born February 21, 1962, the only child of his loving parents, David Wayne Griner, Sr. and Cheryl Griner. He passed away on December 13, 2005. Services will be 1 pm Saturday, December 17th at Speaks Suburban Chapel; with interment in Mound Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 12 pm until service time. He was born in Los Angeles, CA and lived there until moving to Independence in April 1969. He attended William Southern Elementary School, Palmer Junior High School and Truman High School where he was a valued member of the swim team and won many medals. His swimming records held for many years at Truman High School. He also placed 7th in the state meet in his Senior Year. Following High School he attended Central Missouri State University at Warrensburg. He earned a Bachelors Degree in the Administration of Criminal Justice at the University of Missouri. Further academic training earned accreditations in Certified Protection Professional, Certified Fraud Examiner and Certified Credit Union Executive. He used his training to lead security and loss prevention departments for the Toys R Us Stores in the Midwest and in recent years as a Director for the Community of America Credit Union. On July 25, 2001 he was united in marriage to Sarah J. Stegeman and by this marriage he gained two stepdaughters, Abby and Madison. He has two daughters from a previous marriage, Stephanie Lynn, born on June 12, 1988 and Rachel Elizabeth born on February 8, 1992. David was a member of First Baptist Church of Raytown and maintained his faith in the Lord throughout his lifetime. He is survived by his wife, Sarah; two daughters, Stephanie and Rachel Griner; two stepdaughters Abby and Madison Stegeman; his mother, Cheryl Griner; two aunts, Marla Keck and Marilyn Torsch; an Uncle Harold Keck; and two cousins, Stacey Nakahara and Tim Griner. He was preceded in death by his father, David Griner, Sr; an uncle, Ronnie Griner; his maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Vernell Piepergerdes; and also his paternal grandparents, Paul and Juanita Griner.
