Charles H. Gross, 89, Kansas City, MO, passed away July 22, 2012. Services will be 10 am, Friday, July 27 at Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence, MO 64055; interment with Full Military Honors at Greenton Cemetery, north of Odessa, MO. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Thursday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to Children’s Mercy Hospital, 2401 Gillham Rd., Kansas City, MO 64108.
Charlie was born Jan. 16, 1923 in Ft. Scott, KS. He graduated from Northeast High School in Kansas City. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of WWII who served in the South Pacific and India.. He worked in the trucking industry for many years, most notably with the Wilson Freight Company where he retired in 1981, and later with Cartwright Van Lines. He was a collector of stamps and coins who loved the outdoors, loved people and had many friends. He will be greatly missed. He was a longtime member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in south K.C. and a Teamster.
Charlie was preceded in death by his loving wife of thirty-seven years, Betty Gross in 1997. He is survived by daughters Karen Kunz and husband Dale, Lee’s Summit, MO; Connie Payne and husband David, Oak Grove, MO; Christine Harris and husband Darren, Dearborn, MO; brother Bob Gross and wife Dorothy, Denver, CO; sister Willa Hestwood and husband Al, Dallas, TX; grandchildren Kevin Crawford, Lee’s Summit, MO; Justin Crawford, Oak Grove, MO; Alyssa Rinehart, Dearborn, MO; Kayla and Melissa Harris, both of Edgerton, MO.
