Hazel Ruth Gumm, 88 of Independence, MO passed away Monday, December 13, 2021 at Ignite Medical Resort in Blue Springs, MO. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 18, 2021 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055 with burial to follow in Blue Springs Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 9:00 a.m., until service time Saturday at the chapel. Donation may be made in her name to the Glenview Baptist Church, 3101 S. Shrank Rd., Independence, MO 64055.
Hazel was born February 18, 1933 in Charleston, AR to Frank and Delphene (Holt) King and has been a longtime area resident. She had worked as a cashier for several years at Walgreen’s Pharmacy as well as Kmart. She enjoyed baking sewing and shopping and was a longtime member of the Glenview Baptist Church.
She is survived by; a son, 7 grandchildren, Shane, Mandi, Ryan, Holly, Alisa, Nathan and Jordan and numerous great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, a sister and a daughter, Gayla Johnson in 1996. Hazel will always be remembered as a strong woman with a vibrant sense of humor and a knack for conversation! She had an enormous amount of love and pride for her family, and an abundant love of Christ.
