David William Gussman

David William Gussman, 83 of Independence, MO passed away, Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Oak Grove Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 22, 2016 at South Crysler Community of Christ, 3100 South Crysler Ave., Independence, MO 64055. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday Evening at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Avenue, Independence, MO 64052. Donations may be made in his name to South Crysler Community of Christ. David was born December 18, 1932 in West Branch, MI to Henry and Leora (Twining) Gussman. He graduated from West Branch High School in West Branch, MI in 1951 and later from Graceland College with an Associates degree in accounting. He had worked as an assistant bank auditor for the Ludington Bank in Ludington, MI for a while and later was an insurance manager for Ringgold Mutual Insurance in Mt. Ayr, IA. He and his wife also owned and operated the Outpost Restaurant in Lamoni, IA for a number of years. He enjoyed fishing and was proud of being an ordained minister and pastor in the Community of Christ. He was currently a member of the South Crysler Community of Christ and was a former past president of the Southwest Mutuals in IA. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Martha Gussman of the home; a daughter, Sharon Dyer and husband Tracy of Odessa, MO; 2 sons, James Gussman of Independence, MO and John Gussman and wife Kelly of Platte City, MO; a brother, Dean Atherton of West Branch, MI; 8 grandchildren, Caleb, Ashley, Hannah, Spencer, Abigail, Quentin, Gabriel and Alexander and 2 great grandchildren, Ethan and Cameron.
