Donald Cecil “Don” Guyer, a man of faith, passed away suddenly on Monday, April 26, 2021. He was 84. Don was born to Cecil and Catherine Guyer on July 18, 1936 in Kansas City, Missouri.
After attending Manuel High Vo-Tech school for carpentry Don spent two years in Texas. He was very proud to serve with the Brethern Volunteer Services. There he would help children in need get started in schools and teach them how to farm. After returning from Texas Don changed career paths and started his journey as a mechanic. He spent over 40 years in the automotive industry before retiring in 2000. At the young age of 21 Don married the love of his life, Jackie. Together they spent the next 63 years raising a family. They’d enjoy spending much of their time at the lakehouse on Lake Lafayette and staying active within the Church of the Brethern. Don was a Deacon for many years. Don was a leader. He enjoyed guiding children, his son included, through boyscouts and teaching them life skills along the way. Don had a love for Nascar, western films and John Wayne but his number one passion was his family. He was known to have a witty sense of humor. Stories of his “cup and straw tricks'' could always bring a smile to your face. Don was a strong presence and loved so dearly by all that knew him. He will be missed.
Don is survived by his beloved wife, Jackie; son, John Guyer (Ami); son in law, Clyde Paddock; grandchildren, John Guyer Jr. (Amanda), Donnie Paddock (Stacey), Jamie Sue Guyer, Josh Paddock (Alesha), James “Jamie” Guyer (Danielle), Angela Dougherty, Teresa Ryan (Charles); 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Cathy Wiseman (Bill) and sister in law, Marsha Guyer.
He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Sherri Paddock; sisters, Chloe Vivian Johnson and Barbara Ann Randel; and brother, James Guyer.
A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, May 7th, 2021 from 6-8pm at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers family would like donations to be made to the Heifer International in Don’s memory.
