Judith Kay Haas passed away March 3, 2014, at home in Independence, MO, cared for by family and friends. A private memorial service will be held at a later time.
Judith was born January 18, 1941 in California, MO the daughter of Floyd L. and Evelyn (Shoemaker) Hutchison, who have both preceded her in death. Judy was raised in Columbia, MO where she attended Hickman High School and the University of Missouri. Her friendliness, warmth and beauty blossomed as she was a high school Majorette, Boone County Queen and University School of Agriculture Barn Warming Queen. At MU is where she met her husband of 53 years, Robert. Judy was a world class mother. While raising two children she also worked full time at various law firms, supplementing the family’s income. Judy also found time to study real estate and taxes while still remaining active in parent teacher organizations at Glendale, Sycamore Hills, Palmer and Truman. She was a great cook and no one in the family went hungry. In retirement, Judith had a true passion researching family history. With assistance from the internet, Mormon Archives, and genealogy libraries, she created book after book of the in-laws and out-laws of the family lineage. Judy should have been a professional genealogist. She was an avid reader and amassed a huge book collection. The family would like to thank all who supported her in an 11 year battle with cancer. Judy was especially appreciative of the Kansas City Cancer Center in Lee’s Summit (Teresa, you are a God Send), Saint Mary’s Hospital of Blue Springs, and Crossroads Hospice.
Judy is survived by husband, Robert Haas; daughter, Jennifer Murphy and family of Kansas City, MO; son, David Haas and a family of Wichita, KS; brother, Eddie Hutchison and family of Trenton, MO; plus many nieces, nephews, and cousins. No food or flowers please. The family encourages contributions to The Kansas City Rose Society at Loose Park or any of the organizations mentioned above.
