Milda (Midge) Marie Simmons Halastik, 99 of Independence, Missouri passed away on January 27, 2022. Midge was born on December 29, 1922. She was the 6th of 11 children born to Bernie and Augusta Simmons and is the last surviving child.
Midge attended school in Preston, Missouri and graduated in 1941. In 1942 she joined the Navy. Honorably serving until 1946 during WWII as a pharmacist mate 3rd class.
She married Joe Halastik on May 18, 1946 at Holy Name Church. They were married 61 years until he passed in 2008.
Midge was a longtime member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church and belonged to the Women’s Altar Society. She has lived in the same house in Fairmount for almost 75 years. She will always be remembered for her smile, infectious laugh and love for playing cards.
Midge is survived by her daughters, Patricia Witcher (Richard), Teresa Jurgeson and Pauline Smith; sons, Joe Halastik Jr. and Mark Halastik (Karen); 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Monday, February 7th from 6-8pm at Carson-Speaks Funeral Home in Independence, Missouri with the Rosary being recited at 5:30pm. Mass will begin at 11am Tuesday, February 8th at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Independence, Mo. with burial to follow at Mt. Washington Cemetery.
