Motoko Hall, 85, of Indep., MO, passed away October 17, 2014. Funeral Services will be 10 am Sat. Oct. 25, at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Friday, Oct, 24th at the Chapel. Motoko Hall, my mother, was born on June 23, 1929. She went on to rejoin my father, Cornelius Hall, as well as her parents, on October 17. 2014 Mom would often tell me of her childhood. The one thing she mentioned briefly that had a profound effect on her was World War II and how it affected her teenage years. I am sure she had to be strong to survive. She met my father after the War in Okinawa, Japan. I was born in Okinawa where we lived until 1977. We moved back to the United States; mom had to make some adjustments when she came to Missouri. I remember many things about my mother. She was a beautiful woman that took pride in presenting herself well. One thing that stands out to me, however, was her artistic talent. She liked to create things with her hands. In fact, mom working on “Bunka shi shu” (Japanese Needle Point) is one of my enduring memories from early childhood. She also quilted, crocheted, made ceramics, Japanese Dolls, and Ribbon Flowers, as well as sew. I also remember that she was a good wife to my father and a good mother to me. Mom loved her family furiously; she did all that she could to ensure what she believed to be in the best interests of the family. This protective nature served her well in her youth as well as in her move to Missouri. However it did cause some tensions in our family and hardships for her. Mom was 85. She lived a long life, her way. She was loved by many and many loved her. I loved my mother and I will miss her.
Mom, have a safe journey as you go to meet Dad. Please give him our regards. Hopefully someday we can all be reunited without any strife. Mom, I love you and Pray that you are at Peace. I will miss you Mom. Online condolences may be expressed at
