Viola S. Hall, 84 of Independence passed away Mon. Dec 17, 2007 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Services will be 6:00 pm Fri, Dec. 21, 2007 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Indep. MO with the visitation being held immediately following the service. Contributions are suggested to any Hospice program or to the American Diabetes Association. Mrs. Hall was born on May 8, 1923 to Walter and Anna (Bogunia) Szpak in Cleveland, OH. She was a loving homemaker and had enjoyed working for Chambers Tax Service for several years. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and always had a great time celebrating special events with the family. Viola was a proud WWII veteran and had served in the U.S. Marine Corps. It was during that time she met her husband, Robert and after the war, they made their home in Independence. She along with her husband have preserved their experiences during the war at the Truman Memorial Building by participating in the Veteran Video Project. For her part, Viola thought the program represented an opportunity to provide perspective for those curious about the WWII. After leaving her family in Cleveland, she decided that to have family here she would need to start a large one. She was proud of the fact that she has over 56 descendents today, among her family who survives is her husband, Robert “Bob” Hall of Independence; two sons, Robert Hall, Jr. DDS and wife Bonnie of Topeka, KS and Jim Hall and wife Karen of Blue Springs, MO. Four daughters, Linda Taylor and husband Robert of Blue Springs, Christine Peery of Grain Valley, Barbara McCulley and husband Paul of Independence and Marianne McCollam and husband Shane of Blue Springs. A brother, Walter Szpak of Las Vegas, NV. Seventeen grandchildren, Jared Peery, Cindy Taylor, Cathy (Joe) Philips, Sarah (Paul) Dorey, Robert Taylor, Jr., Ifo (Jennifer) Atagi, Stayton (Kristina) Atagi, Jasmin (Jake) Northcutt, Hunter (Jennifer) Atagi, Jacob (Megan) Gibler, Bobby (Amy) Gibler, Brianne McCulley, Kyle McCulley, Mike (Stephanie) Peterman, Stacey Hall, Julie Hall and Mike Hall. Seventeen great grandchildren, Katelyn and J.D. Peery, Drew Hennessey, Connor and Maggie Phillips, Hyland and Havin Atagi, Mason and Alex Atagi, Russell and Ian Northcutt, Jasmin and Jaela Atagi, Naomi and Caedman Gibler, and Mahaylee and Makenzee Peterman.
