David Hamar

December 7, 1966 — January 29, 2007

David "Dave Duane Hamar, 40, Blue Springs, MO died Monday, January 29, 2007 at St. Marys Medical Center, Blue Springs, MO, as the result of injuries he suffered in a construction site accident earlier that morning. Dave was born December 7, 1966, at the Wayne County Hospital, Corydon, Iowa, the youngest son of Roland "Smokey and Nancy Jo Galloway Hamar. He grew up on the family farm near Clio, Iowa, and graduated from Wayne Community High School in 1985. He was an outstanding wrestler and football player at Wayne Community, earning a scholarship to Graceland University, Lamoni, Iowa, where his football career ended with an injury. But his love of sports in general, and Nebraska football in particular, didnt end there. Dave was an avid University of Nebraska Cornhusker football fan, as well as a Kansas City Chiefs fan, and since his move to the Kansas City area from Iowa, enjoyed attending Royals games as well.
He married Sandra Kay Chadwick on October 15, 1988, in Independence, MO. She survives of the home. To this union three children were born, Amanda Jo, Sarah Ann and David "Hoss Harold Hamar, who also survive of the home and attend school in the Blue Springs School district.
Dave worked in Kansas City in the late 1980s as a carpet cleaner for a Raytown Company, then, after Amanda was born, moved his family back home to Iowa where they lived on the family farm for a time. He began working at the Hy-Vee Distribution Center in Chariton, IA, in 1990 and was employed there until July of 2005 when he accepted a position with Summit Masonry in Blue Springs and moved his family to this area. He was employed with Summit Masonry at the time of his death. In addition to his love of football, Dave was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, but most importantly, he loved his family, his wife, his children, his siblings, and his parents. Dave was his familys "go-to guy, as his father had been. Friends and family knew that if you wanted something done you gave it to Big Dave and he took care of it. Dave was also a member of the Community of Christ Church, and attended the Abundant Life branch in Independence.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roland "Smokey Hamar; brother, Eddie Hamar; and his grandparents.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy; his three children, Amanda, Sarah and Hoss, all of the home; his mother, Nancy Hamar, Allerton, IA; his brothers, Bob Hamar, Grand Island, NE, and Marty Hamar and wife, Tanna, Green Castle, MO; his sister, Becky Nickols and husband, Lewis, Pleasant Hill, MO; his mother and father-in-law, Harold and Patricia Chadwick, Odessa, MO; his sisters-in-law and families, Susan and Phillip Freeze, Bates City, MO, and Steve and Sharmin Meadows, Blue Springs, MO; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 1, 2007 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. The service will follow the visitation at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel.
