Onia Marie Hamilton, 71, of Excelsior Springs, MO, passed away on April 5, 2020. She will be laid to rest in Mound Grove Cemetery.
Onia was born on May 14, 1948, in Keokuk, IA, the daughter of Chester and Ruby (Hodge) Young. She graduated from Keokuk High School and then married William E. Hamilton on May 11, 1968. Together they moved to the Missouri area, and resided in Blue Springs, Rayville, and Excelsior Springs. She worked for many years at the Excelsior Springs Hospital in the food preparation department and for Casey’s of Excelsior Springs in the kitchen.
After William passed away in 1985, she briefly moved back to Keokuk before returning to Excelsior Springs, where she remained for the rest of her life. She enjoyed quilting and spending time with her family, laughing and making so many memories. She had a mischievous side, and her family recalls many times where they were on the receiving end of one of her practical jokes. When holidays came around, everyone was cleared out of the kitchen so that she could start her assembly line of dozens and dozens of intricately decorated sugar cookies. She only desired one simple thing in life – the love of her family and friends.
Survivors include her three sons: Karl Lee Hamilton (wife Lily) of Hawaii, William Howard Hamilton (wife Melissa) of Excelsior Springs, and Michael Edward Hamilton of Excelsior Springs; ten grandchildren: Cameo, Amber, Rachel, Mei, Alex, Holly, Alan, Lee, Kendall, and Becky; many great-grandchildren; brother, Wayne Young (wife Rhonda) of Carthage, IL; and her beloved dog, Weezer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Hamilton; her parents, Chester and Ruby Young; and two siblings, Junior Young and Sue Bryant.
