Russell D. Hammett, 70, Independence, MO passed away June 25, 2012 at the VA Hospital in Kansas City. Services will be 10 am, Friday at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence, MO 64055. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Thursday at the chapel. Committal services with Full Military Honors will be 1 pm, Sat. at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery, Branson, MO. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to the American Lung Association.
Russell was born May 27, 1942 in St. Charles, MO. He graduated from East High School in Kansas City and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was in the banking business for most of his life and worked at 1st National Bank of Kansas City for over twenty-five years during his career. Russell then worked at Lake City Arsenal. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He loved fishing, cooking, the Royals and the Chiefs.
Russell was preceded in death by his father Roy Hammett and brother Tom Hammett. He is survived by his wife of fifty years this September Carol Hammett, of the home; sons Kristoffer Hammett and wife Caley, Independence, MO; Patrick Hammett and wife Sandra, Blue Springs, MO; mother Opal Hammett, North Kansas City, MO; grandchildren Clay, Cole, Karina and Danielle; many other family members and friends.
