Leland JC Haney of Independence, Missouri, entered into eternal rest on 16 April 2018 at home surrounded by his family. Visitation will be 6 – 8 pm, Wed. at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO. 64055. Services will be 10 am, Thursday, April 19 at the chapel. Graveside services will follow at 3:30 pm at Hermitage Cemetery in Hermitage, MO. In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to Shriners International, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607.
Born 30 March 1944 in Long Lane, Missouri to James Clifford Haney and Minnie Opal Lynch Haney. He attended Missouri School for the Deaf and Gallaudet University (Class of ‘69) in Washington, D.C. He worked for the US Postal Service for twenty-three years before retiring with his wife, Sharlene Fay (Schmidt) Haney, in Independence, Missouri. Leland was a life-long member of the Missouri Association of the Deaf, and the Jackson County Chapter, as well as a passionate Kansas City Chiefs and Royals fan.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister Lois Haney, a brother, James Haney, a spouse, Carrie (Parkes) Haney, and a daughter, Clara Haney. He is survived by his wife, aunt Nancy Lambeth, Rolla, MO; sister, Patsy Haney, Hermitage, MO; two nephews Darren Haney, Pleasant Hill, MO and Chris Haney, Hermitage, MO and three stepchildren, John Wolford, San Francisco, CA; Cathee Wolford, Jefferson City, MO Gary Wolford Kansas City, MO and many cousins.
