Wade Lewis Hankins, Sr., 84, Independence, MO passed away Sept. 8, 2007. Services will be 9 am, Sat., Sept. 15, 2007 at the Stone Church, Independence, MO; interment at Mt. Washington Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 pm, Friday at Carson-Speaks Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to The Groves, the Summit Grove Congregation of the Community of Christ, Contemporary Christian Ministries c/o Arlin Epperson, 905 Eastland Circle, Columbia, MO 65201-5563 or the charity of your choice.
Wade was born April 13, 1923 in Eddyville, IA. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II. He was a construction project manager in addition to serving his church, Community of Christ, as an Evangelist. Wade ministered in Canada, the British Isles and, in the 1970’s, in Europe. He was the project manager for the restoration of the Kirtland (Ohio) Temple and the first Visitor’s Center there. He was involved in restoring historical sites in Nauvoo, IL. He was currently attending the Summit Grove Congregation but previously had attended South Crysler and Englewood Contemporary Ministries. He also had supervised work for Kansas City Habitat for Humanity.
Wade was preceded in death by his sister Ruth Briggs and grandson Brandon Hankins. He is survived by his wife Joanne Sanner Hankins, of the home; sons Wade Hankins, Jr. and wife Jan, Blue Springs, MO; Greg Hankins and wife Lynda, Lee’s Summit, MO; Al Hankins and wife Jan; Ed Hankins; Jeff Hankins and wife Laura, all of Independence, MO; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
