Harry Robert Hansen, 73 of Independence, MO passed away Thursday, October 12, 2017. Cremation is planned with graveside inurnment 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO. Visitation will be 6 to 8:00 p.m., Monday evening at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Harry was born August 14, 1944 in Kansas City, MO to James Wallace Hansen, Sr. and Mary Margaret (Thompson) Hansen. He graduated from Argentine High School in 1962 and later received a bachelor’s in communications from Park College. He proudly served in the US Army, US Navy and the US Air Force during the Vietnam era and later served in the National Guard. He worked as a train conductor for BNSF and Union Pacific for a number of years until he retired in 2006. He enjoyed chess, golfing and was an avid KC Royals fan. Survivors include; a daughter, Michelle Lukenbill and husband Robert Lukenbill, III; a son, Robert Patrick Hansen of Wichita, KS; a brother, James Wallace Hansen, Jr of Jacksonville, FL; a sister, Mary Helen Wallace and husband Bob of Topeka, KS and 2 grandchildren, Robert Lukenbill, IV and Abigail Lukenbill. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Novotasky in 2016 and a grandson, Anthony Lukenbill in 2005.
