Margaret J. Hansen of Leawood, KS passed away peacefully on November 11, 2017, after a long happy life and a battle with Alzheimer's dementia in her last several years. She was born February 25, 1938 in Des Moines, IA. She graduated from Belmond High School in 1955 and went on to earn her Associate's degree from Graceland College and her Bachelors of Science degree in home economics from Iowa State University in 1959. She married Larry G. Piepergerdes, of Stewartsville, MO on August 14, 1960 and taught home economics for four years before becoming a full time homemaker. Together, she and Larry had three children; Grant, Amy and Anne. She was widowed in 1988. In 1992, Margaret married Ron L. Hansen of Forest City, IA. They lived in Clear Lake, Iowa and Estero, FI for 22 years until his death in 2014. Margaret was a life long member of P.E.O., a member of Lee's Summit United Methodist Church, and Wall Streeters Investment club. She was an avid reader and valued education as one of her main interests and passions. She lead by example, serving as a Lee's Summit School Board Member and was also involved in several book clubs and study groups. She enjoyed tennis, golf, bridge and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She is preceded in death by her parents Doris N. Mussell and Lee O.Mussell, her husbands Larry G. Piepergerdes, M. D. and Ron L. Hansen, and grandson Wyatt N. Piepergerdes. Survivors include her son, Grant Piepergerdes (Shannon) of Kansas City, MO: daughters, Amy Warren of Prairie Village, KS; Anne Armitage (Steven) of Prairie Village, KS; grandson Owen Piepergerdes and granddaughter Louisa Armitage; brothers Howard L. Mussell (Molly) of Sheridan, WY, Frank Mussell (Kathy) of Sisters, OR; stepdaughter Kim Hale of Rochester, MN; step-sons Steve Hansen of Delores, CO; Mike Hansen (Renee) of Charlotte, NC; and step -grandchildren Zach Tannahill, Carter Hale, Anna Hansen and Caroline Hansen. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association or The United Methodist Committee on Relief. Private family services and burial will be held at a later date.
