John Hanson

John L. Hanson 79, of Independence, MO, passed away May 21, 2014. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 3736 S. Lee’s Summit Rd. Visitation will be 1 hour prior, starting at 10:00 am. John was born on March 9, 1935, to Harlow and Edna (Weibeler) Hanson, in Kansas City, MO. John relished telling stories about growing up in Lenexa when it was still a farming community. He retired from the Santa Fe Railroad after 40 years, which allowed him the time to spend doing some of the things that he loved which included; gardening, hunting, fishing, and most of all, traveling. 17 of those years with the railroad were spent in the Topeka, KS area. Left to mourn his passing is his wife of 30 years, Mary Lou Hanson, other survivors include; son, Paul Hanson of Overland Park; daughter, Christine Wise of Prairie Village; son, Roger Hanson of San Francisco; step son, David Bottcher of Blue Springs; step daughter, Barbara Ballard, of Buckner; brother, William Hanson; and sisters, Mary DeBolt and Jo Hanson; 2 grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; 1 great grandchild, and 6 step great grandchildren. John was preceded by his parents, brothers, Philip and Richard Hanson, and a sister Ruth Hanson. Contributions may be made to the Leukemia Society or charity of the donor’s choice.
