Susan J. “Susie” Harms, of Independence, MO, a fun, sarcastic, and outgoing woman who will always be remembered for being the life of the party, passed away on Friday, June 3, 2022. She was 75 years old. Susie was born November 13, 1946, in Kansas City, Kansas to Harry and Geneva (Rebel) Halvorsen. She graduated from Van Horn High School, then married Rob Greenwood early, and from this union a son was born: Danny. In 1977, Susie and Rob divorced. On May 21, 1980, Susie married the love of her life, David Martin Harms in Independence, MO. She was a wonderful mother and wife, who was dedicated to her family. Susie was a hard-working mother to her son, Danny, ensuring that he never wanted for anything and always put him first. Starting in sales, Susie worked for Hallmark for over 30 years, before retiring as a marketing director. From Colorado to California, Susie, David, and Danny always enjoyed taking family excursions together, but Susie always preferred the beach. In 1993, David and Susie purchased a lake home at the Lake of the Ozarks, and they would spend every weekend there. Down at the lake, she had lots of friends and loved having get-togethers. Although Susie loved being surrounded by her friends, she also enjoyed time alone pampering herself, and just spending time outdoors and in her yard with her flowers. Susie was such a giving woman, and she will be dearly missed. She is survived by her son, Danny Greenwood; granddaughters, Kylie Greenwood and Kassidy Greenwood; and sister, Barbara Mallinson. Susie was preceded in death by her husband of over 35 years, David Harms; brothers, Neil Halvorsen, Jeff Halvorsen, and Dennis Halvorsen; and parents, Harry, and Geneva Halvorsen.
In memory of Susie, the family suggests contributions be made to any local women shelters in the Kansas City Metro area of the donor’s choice. A Celebration of Life to honor Susie will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at 1:00 p.m., at 31506 E. Pink Hill Road, Grain Valley, MO 64029.
