David S. Harris, 77, Independence, MO, passed away unexpectedly Nov. 9, 2013. Services will be 10 am, Wed., Nov. 13 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055; cremation. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Tuesday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to Outreach International, 129 W. Lexington, Independence, MO 64050. David was born Nov. 30, 1935 to Samuel E. and Joy E. (Sherman) Harris in Story City, IA. He graduated from William Chrisman High School before attending Graceland College and earning a Bachelors Degree in accounting from CMSU. He worked as an auditor for the U.S. government before retiring in 1980. He then owned and operated Gaslight Travel until 2002 and worked at the Blue Springs Wal-Mart for eighteen years. He was a member of the Community of Christ 39th Street Congregation where he held the office of Priest. He loved to collect Olympic and Coca Cola memorabilia. David was a member of the Local and National Coca Cola Collector’s Clubs and had served as the Treasurer and Vice President of the Midwest Region American Society of Travel Agents. He and his wife, Iris, loved to travel and visited all fifty states, six continents and sixty-four countries. He was a U.S. Army veteran. David is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Iris Harris, of the home; son Keith Harris and wife Liz, Independence, MO; daughter Janet Heese and husband Ron, Dow City, IA; son Scott Harris and wife Angie, Blue Springs, MO; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
