Iris Fernelle Harris, 78 of Independence, MO passed away Monday, May 1, 2017 at the St. Luke’s Hospice House. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 4, 2017 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055 with cremation to follow. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday evening at the chapel. Donations may be made to Cancer Action. Iris was born August 31, 1938 in Tonganoxie, KS to Carl Arthur and Naomi Leona (Filson) Masten. She grew up in Independence and graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1956. She and her husband owned and operated Gaslight Travel until 2002. In addition to that she had worked at the Blue Springs Walmart for 20 years. She enjoyed quilting, gardening and genealogy. She was a member of the E. 39th St. Community of Christ. She was married to David S. Harris who preceded her in death in 2013. Survivors include; 3 children, Keith Harris and wife Liz of Independence, MO, Janet Heese and husband Ron of Dow City, Iowa and Scott Harris and wife Angie of Blue Springs, MO; a sister, Phyllis Ruehter and husband Edward of Sunrise Beach, MO; 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Clifford R. Masten.
