Velma Kathryn Crumpley Hart
March 15, 1923 to September 12, 2005
Services will be 10 am, Friday, Sept. 16, 2005 at Speaks Suburban Chapel; interment at Floral Hills. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Velma was born in Okemah, Oklahoma but resided in Missouri for most of her life. Most recently, Velma and her husband of 64 years, J.C. Hart lived in The Fountains Retirement home in Independence, Missouri. Velma is survived by J.C., daughters Veta Barash, Arlene Calohan, Glenda Hart, Sandra Bray and her husband Michael, and Sherrie Dailey and her husband Dennis. Additionally, she is survived by seven grandchildren: Craig Borowski and his wife Wendy, Shannon Calohan, Ryan Pitts and his wife Tina, Taylor Bray, Jay Miller, Troy Bray and his wife Terie, Danny and Donny Dailey and Debby Barash. Three great-grandchildren also survive her - Sydney Borowski, Madison Borowski and Samuel Pitts. Velma is also survived by brother, Don Crumpley, sisters Tola Anderson, Opal Scott and Florence Dickinson and many nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved. Velma was the matriarch of a large and close family and, along with her husband J.C., she taught them many lessons in life such as humility, generosity, honesty, integrity and a sound work ethic. She demonstrated to her daughters how to be a gracious hostess and that true motherhood requires many sacrifices. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the following agencies: Children�s Mercy Hospital, The American Cancer Society, or the American Red Cross relief fund for Hurricane Katrina�s victims.
