Loretta R. (Greelish) Harter, 97 of Independence, MO passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at the Villages of Jackson Creek. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 24, 2012 at Northern Boulevard Methodist Church 1800 S. Northern Boulevard, Independence, MO 64052. Burial will follow in Mt. Washington Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m., until service time Friday at the church. Donations may be made in her name to Northern Boulevard Methodist Church or to KC Hospice. Loretta was born June 6, 1915 in Kansas City, MO to Martin R. and Loretta R. (Auker) Greelish and has been a lifelong area resident graduating from Northeast High School in 1932. Loretta was orphaned at age 7 and was raised by her grandmother and an aunt. She was baptized Catholic by her parents but later joined the Methodist church and was a longtime member of Northern Boulevard Methodist Church. In 1933 she married Claude Harter and enjoyed 51 years together before he passed away in 1985. She had worked as church secretary for Northern Boulevard Methodist Church for 32 years until she retired in 1994. Survivors include; a son in law, Dayle Lindsey of Harrisonville, MO; a step grandson, Jordan R. Lindsey; a step granddaughter, Julie Coburn; a step great grandson, Jesse R. Coburn; a nephew, Everett Ruby and wife Anna; 2 nieces, Donna Williams and husband Ken and Elsie Bangert and husband Pete and many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Claude and a daughter, Janet Lindsey.
