John "Steve" Hartnett

John Steven Hartnett, fondly called “Steve”, 63, of Independence, MO died Friday, October 5, 2012 at Centerpoint Medical Center. Steve was born September 23, 1949, in Independence, MO to John and Corinne Hartnett. He attended Truman High School and graduated in 1967. Steve was a service worker for the City of Independence, working at the National Frontier Trails Museum and Fire Station #1 throughout his 30 years of dedicated service. He retired in July 2009. Steve enjoyed riding motorcycles, polishing his cars, and listening to classic rock-n-roll music. Once diagnosed with cancer a year ago, he never gave up and there were never any complaints. Steve maintained a brave and cheerful outlook of an optimistic future, despite countless radiation and chemotherapy treatments. He will forever be loved by his family. Steve was preceded in death by his father, John E. Hartnett; and brother, Mark Hartnett. He leaves behind his mother, Corinne Hartnett of Independence; sister, Mary Morgan; niece, Savannah Sklare; and several cousins. A Visitation will be held from 10:00- 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 11, 2012 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel. The urn will then be laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery. Following the committal ceremony, there will be a time of gathering to celebrate Steve’s life at 2:00 p.m. in the Groves Community Room; 1515 W. White Oak; Independence, MO 64050.
