Sonjah Lee Hatfield, a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 24, 2021. She was 84. Sonjah was born to Ray and Josephine Calhoun on November 1, 1937 in Atlanta, Georgia.
Sonjah was a very hands on momma. She took pride in caring for her family and her home. Sonjah had great talent in the kitchen and baked daily. She was also an incredible seamstress and even made beautiful dresses for her daughters to wear to their Sadie Hawkins dance. Sonjah loved children. She was a school bus driver for over 30 years. Sonjah and her late husband Virgil were zioneer leaders and helped to guide middle school students as well. She enjoyed floats trips with her family and berry picking at her mother’s farm on the weekends. Sonjah’s onry, witty sense of humor will be missed greatly by her family and friends.
She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Griffin and Cynthia Alexander (Donald); son, David Hatfield; son in law Bill Reynolds and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Sonjah is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Virgil; daughter, Markita Reynolds; son in law Jim Griffin; sister, Carolden Strickland; brother, Ray Calhoun and granddaughters, Christina Paddock, Lenetta Watts.
