Verla Phillips Haven, 86, of Independence, MO passed away on Friday, April 30, 2004 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 3, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, with the burial at Mound Grove Cemetery. The visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. on Sunday at the chapel. Mrs. Haven was born on October 13, 1917 in Plain City, Utah to Jeddiah Hyrum and Chloe (Cragum) Hodson. She moved to Independence where she met and married Norbert C. Phillips on January 1, 1938. They owned and operated several local businesses� including B&M Meats, Country Pickins and Elite Meats. He preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were sister, Ethel Hodson; sisters and brothers-in-law, Alta Constance and husband, Dale; Vivian McGuire and husband R.S. (Mac) McGuire; Edna Downs and husband, Harley and brother, Eugene Hodson. Mrs. Haven served as a volunteer for the Laurel Club for many years where she met and married George E. Haven of Raytown, MO, October 22, 1992. He survives her. She had been a lifelong member of the RLDS church and was a charter member of the Remnant Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She is survived by her two daughters, Janet I. Day with husband Charles, and Connie K. Hurlburt with husband John; one stepdaughter, Jana K. McCullough with husband Donald; seven grandchildren, Robin L. Pfannenstiel with husband Paul, Angela R. Johnson with husband Robert, Ronald C. Day with wife Nicki, Dawn A Day, Robert A. Eslinger Jr., Laci A. Thurn with husband Larry, and Amy M. Hurlburt; six step-grandchildren, Devlen E. Day with wife Belinda, Donavan C. Day with wife Angela, Shelley L. Cole with husband Kevin, Tiera L. Shrout with husband Stephen, Casey L. Arnold with husband Cecil, Mindy R. McCullough; Eleven great-grandchildren, Nichole M. Cline with husband Scott, Courtney L. Pfannenstiel, Taylor and Riley Braun, Taryn and Brooke Day, Meghan Bussard, Ashton and Corbin Eslinger and Dakota and Dayton Thurn; fourteen step great grandchildren, Billie and Charlee Day, Levi, Hannah, Ben and Sam Day, Jacqueline and Mackenzie Sears, Haden Cole, Wyatt and Sydney Shrout, Holly and Chandler McCullough, and Kelsey Arnold; one great -great grandchild, Gavyn Cline; and many nieces and nephews.
