Marlyn D. Hawley, 81, of Independence, passed away on Wednesday January 30, 2019. A memorial visitation will be held Saturday, February 2nd from 2-3pm with a service at 3:00pm, both at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Marlyn was born in Ravenwood, Missouri to Leonard and Alta Hawley on March 31, 1937. He graduated from Quitman High School, in Northwest Missouri, in 1955. He went to work for the Missouri State Highway Department and then in 1961, he began working for Kansas City Power and Light as a Journeyman Lineman. He retired from KCPL in 1994, after 33 years of service.
Marlyn is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Alta; a sister, Arleta Coffelt; and a great-nephew, Ross.
Marlyn is survived by his wife of 58 years Gayle (Wilson) Hawley of Independence; son Doug (Kim) Hawley; daughter Annette (Brandon) Stewart; and four grandchildren Claire and Faith Hawley and Cole and Reade Stewart.
Family meant everything to Marlyn. When he retired from KCPL, he and Gayle moved to Independence to be closer to his children and soon to be grandchildren.
