Merida L. Haworth, 93, of Independence, MO passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2004 at Hidden Lake Care Center. Visitation will be Monday, April 26th from 10 to 11 am at George C. Carson & Sons Funeral Home; with a graveside service at 11:30 am at Mound Grove Cemetery. Merida was born July 12, 1910 in Kansas City, MO to Bert and Mary Belle Haworth. During WWII he worked for the Army Engineers at Ft. Crook, Nebraska, now Offutt Air Force Base in the air factory modifying aircraft. Among instrumentation installed while there, he and his coworkers installed and modified the instrumentation in the Enola Gay the famous plane that bombed Japan. Following WWII he returned to Kansas City and continued his Career as instrument mechanic with the Standard Oil Company in Sugar Creek, retiring from there in 1975. Merida was preceded in death by his two wives Ethel (Swanson) and Marie (Adkins) Haworth. Also, preceded him in death were his parents, five sisters and one brother, he is survived by his brother Harold and sister-in -law Betty Haworth of Independence. He is also survived by his daughter Carol of Independence; granddaughter and husband Karla and Darin Huitt of Eagleville, Missouri, and the joys of his life, his twin great grandsons Logan and Lane Huitt, also of Eagleville. Also surviving are two step children, Chester and wife Sandy Adkins of Atlanta, Georgia and Adruth and husband Jerry McKinney of Sugar Creek, Missouri; 5 step-grandchildren, and 8 step-great grandchildren and one step-great great grandchild. Mr. Haworth was an accomplished wood-worker, avid fisherman, gardener and musician. He was a member of the Standard Oil Retirees Club, Englewood men�s club, and the Golden Age Club of Ridgewood Community of Christ Church, which he attended for 44 years, following from moving from Independence to Kansas City.
