Ruby M.J. (Hinken) Hayes, 97, of Independence, MO passed away Friday, January 8th, 2016. A visitation will be held from 9:00-10:00am Tuesday, January 12, at Carson Speaks Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 10:00am at the chapel. A committal service will be held at 1:00pm at Highland Sacred Garden in Sedalia, MO.
Ruby was born July 20, 1918 in Sedalia, MO as the oldest of seven to Willie E. and Esther E. (Ditzfeld) Hinken. She attended Smith Cotton High School until 16 when she started work to help support the family. Later she married her beloved Charles R. Hayes on May 19, 1946. They moved to Kansas City, MO in 1952 where they raised their son. She was a member of White Avenue Methodist Church for over 50 years and most recently a member of Pleasant View Christian Church. She also participated in numerous community organizations. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who humbly gave of herself. Ruby is loved and will be missed.
Survivors include son, Jack Hayes (Kathy) of Independence, MO; grandchildren, Rachel Polon (Brian) of Washington DC; and John Hayes (Michelle) of St. Louis, MO; great grandson, Charlie Hayes; siblings, Nelson “Bud” Hinken of Sedalia, MO and Delores Smith of Covington, WA; and numerous other nieces, nephews, family and friends who will dearly miss her. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Bernice McGee, Kenneth Hinken, Martha Sevier, and Billy Hinken; and beloved husband, Charles.
