Velma Jean Heather, 62, Independence, MO passed away Sept. 1, 2014. Visitation will be 9-10 am, Friday Sept. 5 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052, followed by graveside services at 10:30 am at Mt. Washington Cemetery. She worked at the Independence Christian Center for twenty years and most recently had worked for Stoneriver Insurance Company. She enjoyed reading Louis L’Amour novels, working Sudoku puzzles and was a big fan of Elvis Presley. Velma was preceded in death by her husband Stanley Heather in 1994. She is survived by sons Justin Heather and wife Kimberly, Chicago, IL; Adam Heather and wife Suthida, Bangkok, Thailand; mother Erma Hare; brother Danny Hare; sister Marie McConahie, Victoria, TX; grandchildren Justin II, Lena, Alexander and Simona
