Sarah Kathleen Heavner, 88, passed away on June 1, 2017. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 6, from 6-8pm, with funeral service on Wednesday, June 7, at 1pm both at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St. in Independence. Burial will take place in Mound Grove Cemetery.
Kathleen was born on August 13, 1928, in Linn Creek, MO, to Sherman and Martha Ellen “Ellie” (Ginnings) Looney. She married Albert Roofener and to this union were born four children. She later married John Frank Heavner, and was a loving step-mother to his two sons. Along with raising her family, she was also a packager for Coopers, Pittman, and Moore Company.
Her great passion was music – she loved playing the guitar and singing for church or family gatherings. She was a woman of deep faith, and a prayer warrior. Kathleen never met a stranger, and would talk with anyone she met. She started every conversation with a compliment, and ended it with a hug. She was known for her beaming smile and her unending kindness to all she encountered.
Kathleen is survived by her daughters, Judy Brooks (late husband, Billy) and Shirley Short and step-son Wess Heavner; grandchildren, Tracy Wheeler (Brian), Bobby Brooks, Samantha Sullivan (Chris), Tim Roofener (Melissa), Rebecca Cambers (Kress), Sterling Nicholas Roofener, Jessica Heavner, Sarah Heavner, Christopher Heavner, Valerie Dyan, and Harley Heavner; and many great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Albert and John; infant daughter, Rita, son, Larry Roofener, step-son, Chris Heavner; parents, Sherman and Ellie Looney; and brothers, Leonard and Henry Looney.
