Jim Hedges, Jr. of Independence, passed away at home on July 5, 2006 at the age of 64, surrounded by his loving wife of 46 years, and his children. Services will be 2:00 pm Saturday, July 8, 2006 at the Carson-Speaks Chapel. Family will greet friends from 7-8:30 pm Friday evening at the Chapel. Jim was born December 21, 1941 in Independence, MO to Carl J. Sr. and Ethel L. (Hart) Hedges. He graduated from Fort Osage High School. Jim worked for many years as a welder for Allis Chalmers, and was a member of 6 Mile Baptist Church. With his family, Jim enjoyed fishing and camping. He was very social, and jovial, going out of his way to make even strangers feel comfortable. Jim was very loyal and protective of his family, and enjoyed spending as much time as he could with them. He was a very strong yet gentle man. Left to mourn his passing is his wife, Judy of the home, daughter Carrie Shropshire and husband Gerald of Independence, daughter Christine Jeffries and husband David of Sibley, and son Brian Hedges and wife Amy of Harrisonville. He also leaves behind 5 cherished grandchildren: Alyssa Shropshire, Brianne Shropshire, Rachel Jeffries, Derek Jeffries, and Samuel Hedges. Sisters, Joyce Mathis, Marsha Johnston, Jackie Reusch, and many family and friends.
