JoAnn Hedrick, 72, passed away on August 11, 2020, after a courageous nine-year battle with stage four breast cancer.
A lifelong resident of the Independence area, JoAnn was born on December 17, 1947, the daughter of Rashia Cleveland Webb and Florence Henningsen Webb. She graduated from William Chrisman High School in the class of 1965. She became a stay-at-home mom to her two daughters, then began her 35-year career as a sales manager for The Jones Store/Macy’s. She enjoyed decorating for special events and holidays, and she made many happy memories traveling the states with her family. She was organized, creative, and a big kid at heart. Her strong, sweet spirit will be deeply missed.
JoAnn is survived by her two daughters Deborah Bax (husband Charley) and Sandra Pierce (husband Elliot) and their father Joseph Hedrick; grandchildren Amber McKinnie (husband Mark), Austin Bax (wife Megan) Jessica Pierce, and Lauren Paige Pierce; great-grandson Declan McKinnie and another great-grandbaby due in January; best friend and confidante Janet Congdon; many extended family and friends; and one dearly-loved feline companion named Angel.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one granddaughter Kaitlyn Diane Pierce.
A visitation will be held on Monday, August 17, from 1-2pm, with celebration of life to follow at 2pm, both at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave. in Independence. She will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery following the service.
To honor her love of animals, the family suggests contributions to the Great Plains SPCA.
