Delorais Heffner, 70 of Independence passed away Sat. Mar 31, 2007 at the Independence Regional Health Center. Services will be 11:00 am, Sat. Apr 7, 2007 at the Carson- Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave. Indep. MO. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery. Contributions are suggested to the American Diabetics Association. Delorais was born on Jan 17, 1937 to William and Agnes (Sauvageau) Heffner. She was a graduate of William Chrisman High School and then received her Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technoglogy from Central Missouri State University. She then did her internship with St. Luke�s Hospital. She also graduated from the Institute of Radiologist and was a member of the America Society of X-Ray Technicians and the Missouri Society of X-Ray Technicians. Delorais was also a member of the American Society of Medical Technologists and the American Society of Clinical Pathologist. She holds a National Certificate for Laboratory Personnel and had earned a Certificate in Recognition and Achievement from KU Medical Center. She had also received the "I Care� pin for Exemplary behavior. She had great success in practicing Medical Technology both in the Independence and Kansas City area. She had won the Medical Center of Independence certificate in Blood Banking because of her supervision. It is most appropriate to mention that she was responsible for a rare blood transfusion, which saved an EJC man�s life. After her Angioplasty surgery at the Independence Regional Health Center, she was featured by the Independence Examiner as a beautiful example of a Cardiac Rehabilitation patient. She has gained the admiration of many friends for her artistry in sculpting and related art works. She battled many diseases with patience, courage and dignity. Delorais was preceded in death by her parents, sister Carmen Federico and several loving Pets. She is survived by her sister Violeta Concio Cortez Ignacio; nieces and nephews, Lisa, Kyle and Thea Federico; cousins Lorraine and Bill Heffner and her loving pets, Gigi, Jane, Violie, Little St. Bernard and Deedlebug. Her sister Vi wishes to thank the caring expertise of Dr. Jane Murray, Dr. Amin, Dr. Chu, and the staff of John Knox Village Home Health Care for the excellent care that Delorais had received and to friends who reached out to here during her long and difficult journey. She was a loving, very talented and caring individual and was a very fascinating woman of Achievement.
