Robert Lee Henley, Sr., 88, of Independence MO passed away Monday, October 17, 2022.

Dr. Henley was born August 7, 1934, in St. Louis, MO. to Norman and Orpha Henley. Dr. Henley received his B.A. Degree from the University of Missouri, his M.A. Degree from Washington University in St. Louis, and his Doctorate from the University of Missouri. He began his teaching career in the St. Louis area and quickly moved into administration. He was employed as the Superintendent of the Independence, MO School District in 1975 and retired in 1992. Dr. Henley received numerous awards and special recognition during his career as superintendent. Although his special achievements are too numerous to list, among them was the Distinguished Service in Education Administration, Outstanding Emeritus Educator, Missouri Superintendent of the Year, and National Finalist for Superintendent of the Year. He served on the National Council of the Arts, Missouri State Special Education Panel, and many other local, state, and national boards. He has been profiled in both state and national publications.
Dr. Henley is survived by his wife Patricia, three children Robert Lee Henley Jr. and wife Suzanne, Laura Susan Henley, and Kevin Ray Pendley and wife, Madonna; a brother, Paul Henley of St. Louis, a sister, MaryJane Telle of House Springs, MO., granddaughter, Sydney Ocampo and husband, Salvador; and grandson, Robert Lee Henley III.
He was preceded in death by sister Norma Jean Zeiser.
