Herbert Matthew Dillon, lovingly known as Matt, passed away on January 26, 2024, in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born on November 15, 1943, in Hanford, California. Matt's remarkable life was filled with a passion for his family, career as an auctioneer, his interests in politics, and his unwavering love for sports.
After graduating from Smith Cotton High School, Matt pursued his dream by attending Auctioneer training. His dedication to perfecting his craft allowed him to spend his entire career as an auctioneer until his well-deserved retirement in 2008. Matt's charismatic presence and skillful performance made him a respected figure in the industry.
Outside of work, Matt possessed a fervent interest in politics. He was deeply knowledgeable about current events and would engage in passionate discussions with family and friends. His opinions were well-informed, and he always encouraged open dialogue and learning from different perspectives. His only regret, he said, is that he “will not be around to see Trump win the election.”
Sports played a significant role in Matt's life. As an avid sports fan, he cherished watching Kansas City Chiefs and Royals games. However, it was evident that his heart belonged to the St. Louis Cardinals. Matt's loyalty knew no bounds as he cheered on his beloved team through victories and defeats.
Matt will be dearly missed by those who knew him best. He is survived by his life partner of over 35 years, Sue Kirkham, who provided unwavering love and support throughout their journey together. He leaves behind a legacy of love through his daughters, Julie (Jim) Randall and Jeanné (Terry) Tunis; stepdaughter, Robin (Lanny) Wagoner; stepsons Ryan (Gina) Kirkham and John (Stephanie) Kirkham; grandsons, Devon, Matthew, Corey, Barry, Jeremy, Kyle, and Nicholas; granddaughters Morgan, Chelsea, Haley, Alyssa, and Tara; sister, Dolly Cobb; and many cherished great-grandchildren. Matt was preceded in passing by his loving parents, Roy and Dolly (Marquess) Dillon; daughter, Jenny Thompson; and his eight brothers and sisters. The bonds of family were incredibly important to Matt, and he always cherished the moments shared with his loved ones.
