Eleanor Jean Hershey, 89, Independence, MO died on Dec. 26, 2011 at Centerpoint Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am preceded by a visitation beginning at 10 am, Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012 at the chapel of the White Oak Living Center, 1515 W. White Oak, Independence, MO. Private interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to Outreach International, 129 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64050.
Eleanor was born on May 22, 1922 in Independence, MO where she was a lifelong resident. Eleanor graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1940. She worked for a variety of employers, including the Independence Sanitarium and Hospital, the Community of Christ in the Council of Twelve office, the Herald Publishing House and Hershey Advertising. She became a real estate agent in 1989 and worked for a number of brokers. She retired from RE/MAX Heartland in 1999. Eleanor served as a member of the International Women’s Ministry Commission and in many other leadership capacities for the Community of Christ.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, Philip and Emma Landfried; brothers Elbert, Robert, John and James; sisters Mildred, Ruth, Frances and Mary. She is survived by her husband of sixty-seven years Myron Hershey, of the home; sons Roger Hershey and wife Nancy, Independence, MO; Howard Hershey, Lufkin, TX; Eric Hershey and wife Fran, Lee’s Summit, MO; grandchildren Sterling Hershey and wife Mary, Independence, MO; Erin Gomer and husband Brandon, Lee’s Summit, MO; Don Hershey, Toledo, OH and great-grandchildren Robbie and Adrienne Gomer, Lee’s Summit, MO.
