Philip Jerome Higbee, 87, of Independence, Mo, passed away, Sunday, July 31, 2005 at Carmel Hills Living Center. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 4, 2005 at St. Mary�s Catholic Church. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 with a rosary to be recited at 10:00 a.m. Thursday morning at the Carson-Speaks Chapel. Philip was born on January 25, 1918 and departed this life on July 31, 2005. He was born in Independence, MO and was a life-long resident. He graduated from DeLaSalle Academy in 1936. He attended Rockhurst College and St. John�s Seminary. During WWII he was part of the Air Offensive Europe; Normandy; Northern France; Ardennes; Rhineland; and Central Europe. He was awarded 6 Bronze Stars for the for the above campaigns; and 2 Overseas Bars. Philip was an avid tennis player who loved to travel and enjoyed music, the arts and nature. Philip retired from Standard Oil Refinery in 1980 and was a member of St. Mary�s Parish. He is pre-deceased by his wife Martha Gilbert-Higbee; his brother Paul Higbee, of Florida: and his sister Mary Truman of Independence, MO. He is survived by his children: Roxanne Higbee Ponak of Independence, MO; Philip Andrew Higbee of St. Clair Shores, MI; Michele Higbee Rohaus of Independence, MO. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Sarah Williams, David Ponak, Jonathan Higbee, Charles Rohaus, Ryan Rohaus and Zackary Higbee and by two sons in law: Donald Ponak and Raymond Rohaus; two brothers, Ross Higbee of Independence, MO and Richard Higbee of Texas; two great grandchildren, Opal Kathryn Ponak and Olivia Sage Williams. Numerous cousins, nieces and nephews survive him also. Philip was a quiet man of gentle humor who will be missed by all who knew him.
