Lucille D. Higgins, Independence MO, passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2004, at Independence Regional Health Center. Services will be 10:00 am, Friday, January 9, at Speaks Midtown Chapel; burial in Lexington Memorial Park. Visitation will be 7-8:30 pm Thursday at the Chapel. Lucille was born February 29, 1916 to Edward and Dixie Clawson. She took a position as a teacher, and spent her life helping young people gain an education. She taught in the St. Joseph MO area for many years, then taught 3rd grade at Ott Elementary School in Independence. She retired after 31 years of service. She loved playing piano, listening to music of all kinds, and traveling. Lucille is survived by her son, Donald Higgins and his wife Dorothy, of Independence MO; her brother, Loren E. Clawson and his wife Margie, San Fransisco CA; her niece and Sandra Lavos; nephew Roger Clawson; special friends Jacquie and Calvin Powell, and Hazel Vroom; and many other loving relatives and friends.
