Bill Hill, 96, of Independence, MO passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at his home. A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 19, 2017 from 3-5pm at Carson-Speaks Chapel 1501 W. Lexington Ave, Independence, MO, 64052. A private burial will take place at Floral Hills.
Bill was born on November 10, 1921 to Ed and Mary (Halterman) Hill in Miller, MO. After graduating high school, he joined the United States Army Air Corps where he served in WWII in the Aleutian Islands. On June 14, 1947 he married Gladys May Fields, on Flag Day. He worked for Standard Oil until 1959 and then retired from Bayer Corporation in 1987. In between jobs he worked on everyone’s cars and enjoyed playing pranks on people. In his spare time he was an avid hunter for quail and turkey and loved fishing. His biggest love was dogs, earning him the nickname “Dogman”.
Bill will always be loved and remembered in the hearts of his daughter Pam Hill-Tolbert and husband Gale; two grandchildren Greg Burnworth and Natalie Honas; four great-grandchildren Brandon, Ross, Audrey, and Colin; good friends David Caldwell and wife Liz; and Leslie Miller.
He was preceded in death by his siblings and his wife.
