John H. Hill

John Howard "Jack� Hill, 91, of Independence, MO, passed away, Monday December 27, 2004 at Independence Regional Health Center. Services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 30, 2004 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial with full military honors will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday evening at the chapel. Jack was born April 4, 1913 in Independence, MO to Joseph H. and Mary E. (Hinde) Hill. He grew up in Independence and graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1931. He then attended Commerce Central Business College from 1932-33. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Army from 1944-46. Jack was a member of the Tirey Ford Post #21 of the American Legion for over 50 years and the Hillcrest Country Club. He worked for the U.S. Treasury Department in the IRS from 1947 until he retired in 1973 and later worked for the Missouri Department of Revenue. He was married to Jennie Smith in 1950; she preceded him in death on November 8, 1995. Survivors include; a son, John Brian Hill and his wife Tona of Gladstone, MO; a brother, Edgar M. Hill of Independence, MO; and two grandchildren, John Benjamin Hill and Abigail Lynn Hill. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Wayside Waifs or to the Northland Christmas Store at North Cross United Methodist Church.
