Vicky Jean Hill

February 6, 1952 — July 21, 2020

Vicky Jean Hill, 68 passed away on July 21, 2020. One of her very favorite things to do was to sit on the screened in back porch with her daughters and watch thunderstorms come in. They would sing ‘Going to the Chapel’ and count the seconds between the lightning and the thunder to see how far from the eye of the storm they were. In the wee hours of the morning on Tuesday July 21st, Vicky’s time was coming near. Thunder and lightning started rolling in, and her family gathered around her. It was as if God was opening up the sky just to welcome her home. She was the most wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and aunt.

Vicky was born on February 6, 1952, in Independence, MO to Don and Dorothy Waddell. She lived in Independence for the entirety of her life. She attended Benton Elementary School, William Chrisman Junior and Senior High, graduating in 1970. In high school she enjoyed drama and was a member of the Shakes Society. More importantly, she met the love of her life, Thomas Dean Hill, in December 1969 in marketing class. She made a point to let everyone know that she was the one to ask him out. They were married July 31st, 1970 and would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this month. Vicky had many jobs throughout her life. She began working for Hallmark Cards following graduation. Then began her absolute favorite career as a Mom with the birth of their first daughter, Shawna Kay in 1971, second daughter, Amanda Beth in 1977 and third daughter, Laura Jean in 1982.

As a stay at home mom she found different ways to make extra money for the family by making and selling Cabbage Patch kid like dolls during the craze in the 80’s, raising chickens and calves, growing and selling vegetables and gooseberries at the Independence Farmers Market on Saturday mornings as well as doing taxes. As the girls grew older, Vicky decided to get her license to become a Realtor. She enjoyed working for Coldwell Banker and ReMax and became a member of the Million Dollar Club. She became a grandma in 1995 and decided that she would like to stay at home and help raise the next generation of her family, and she did just that. She helped all three of her daughters teach their children unconditional love, enjoying the moment, how to work hard for what you want, morals, manners and respect.

Vicky was loved by everyone that met her, including any stranger in any grocery store aisle. She had a way about her that drew people in and a warm heart that made them feel at home. Her encouraging words could lift up the broken hearted. Her genuine compassion and fun-loving nature made everyone feel welcomed and loved. She was all the friend's favorite and offered advice when asked.

“You can’t judge someone by where they live or what they wear, or you’ll miss out on some great people and a lot of fun. Besides, when I was a kid, I didn’t have the best of clothes or stuff. But I had a lot of fun - just be careful and never let your friends pull you down - always bring them up to a higher level.” Vicky J Hill.

She enjoyed coaching several of her daughter’s volleyball teams. She loved traveling to different locations in the United States but enjoyed walking along the beaches of Florida the best. She loved nature and wrote many poems about it and her love for her family.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas Dean Hill; three daughters, Shawna Kay Blackmon (Jeffery), Amanda Beth Raddatz (Stephan), and Laura Jean George (Jesse); Seven grandchildren, Andrew (Janelle), Hannah and Elizabeth Blackmon, Grace and Scarlet Raddatz, Faithlyn and Rhiannon George and three great grand-daughters, Elianna, Lilith, and Madeleine Blackmon. She also leaves to mourn her loss, her father Donald Eugene Waddell; a brother, Donald Steven Waddell (Mary); two nieces, Dawn Cook (Ryan), and Beth Wilson (Troy) and four great nieces, Ashton, Paityn, and Kennedy Cook, Parker Wilson and one great nephew, and Warner Wilson. She was preceded in death by her Mother, Dorothy Helen Waddell and her brother David Ray Waddell.
